“Making the familiar strange, and the strange understandable.”

About

My name is Xun Luo. I am Professor of Intercultural Communication and Business at Justus Liebig University Giessen, a position I have held since 2022.

My research centers on intercultural communication and Germany-China relations. Drawing on the inherently interdisciplinary nature of these fields, I apply a mixed-methods approach that bridges sociology, communication studies, anthropology, and modern China studies — pursuing insights that are both culturally grounded and broadly generalizable, with direct relevance to pressing societal challenges.

My teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, encompassing courses such as Introduction to Intercultural Communication and Business and Research Methods in Intercultural Studies. I combine theoretical rigor with practice-oriented, project-based pedagogy, preparing students to navigate complex intercultural environments with confidence.

Before entering academia, I worked as a journalist and management trainee in Beijing and Shanghai. Since 2010, I have also designed and led executive training programs and consulting projects in intercultural communication and management for corporations and public institutions across Germany and China.
